Southern Flying Squirrel Information

    Habitat:
             In the canopies of Asia, Europe, and North and South
             America. Tropical and temperate rainforests.
   Diet:
             Nuts, fruits, buds, insects, small birds, small eggs, and
             acorns.
   Enemies:
             Hawks and eagles.
   Facts:
             It is a nocturnal rodent.

             They can live up to 12 years.

             The Flying Squirrel has large eyes, soft fur, and a long
             flattened tail.

             It rests in tree hollows.

             They rarely descend to the ground.

             They do not hibernate.

             The Flying Squirrel doesn't fly, it glides.

             They can glide for about 150 feet at a time.

             When they glide, they always finish lower than they
             started.

             Their skin acts as a parachute.

             About 20 flying squirrels may occupy the same winter
             den.

             They're highly sociable to other flying squirrels.

             There are about 43 species of flying squirrels
