Desert Description

A Desert is a place where it's really hot or really cold. Animals and plants must get used to the heat or cold. In cold Deserts the ground is covered in snow and few plants grow. Hot Deserts are dry and sunny. We usually think of Deserts as being sandy, but they're not. Many Deserts are rocky and have stones. During the day it gets so schorchering hot, you can fry an egg in the sands or rocks. There was once in the Atacama Desert of North Chile (the driest desert) that one area had rain in 1570 and then again in 1971! There wasn't rain in 401 YEARS! More than one seventh of land on our planet is taken by Deserts.
