Clouds

How do clouds form?

Clouds form when moist air rises and becomes cooler.

Types of clouds

There are many different kinds of clouds. One kind of cloud is a towering cumulus cloud. This type of cloud is very tall and brings thunder storms. Some clouds have round bumps on them. Tornados come from these clouds. Stratus clouds may be a good sign, but do not let the looks fool you because rain and snow could drop from these clouds.

What are clouds?

Clouds are large droplets of water or ice crystals. Clouds are a sign of either hurricanes, rain, snow, tornados, or typhoons.

Low Clouds

The two kinds of low clouds are the stratus clouds and the stratocumulus clouds. These clouds are the closest clouds to the earth. Stratus clouds look like a smooth, even sheet of water vapor. Drizzles often falls from these. Stratocumulus clouds are not as even as a stratus cloud. They have dark areas on the bottom.

Middle clouds

Altostratus, altocumulus, and nimbostratus clouds are usually 6,000 to 20,000 feet above the earth. Nimbostratus clouds are closer to the ground. The altocumulus clouds come in many shapes and sizes.

High Clouds

The highest kinds of clouds are the cirrus, the cirrostratus, and the cirrocumulus clouds. These clouds are completely made of ice crystals. Other clouds are just water droplets. Cirrus clouds are wispy and can be 35,000 feet off the ground. A cirrostratus cloud is a thin sheet of cloud. Cirrocumulus clouds look like puffs of cotton in the sky. These clouds rarely form bad weather.
