Fronts
By Michael V. and Julio C.
Have you ever
wondered what fronts are? Do you know what cold or warm fronts
are? Now those questions are answered. Well, let's answer the first
two questions and more questions about fronts!
A front is
the boundary or area of contact between two air masses. When the cold and
warm air mass emerge, they make a zone named a front. There are two main
fronts which are cold and warm fronts. The edge of a cold air mass goes
under a warm air mass.
The warm air
mass then goes up.
Most cold fronts
move west to east or northwest to southeast.
Cold fronts
often bring brief, heavy storms. There may be thunder storms and
strong winds. After the storm, the skies are usually clearer and the weather
is usually cooler and drier.
A warm front
is an air mass that replaces a cold air mass. Warm fronts move southwest
to northeast. Warm fronts bring steady rain or snow.
