TYPHOONS
Do you ever wonder when
typhoons occur or how they travel?
Well then, read on.
The dangerous tropical
storms that sweep on top of the Pacific Ocean from the Philippine Islands
to Japan and the coast of China are called typhoons. Storms that are like
typhoons are called hurricanes. Typhoons occur the most from July to October.Typhoons
start in low latitudes in the North Pacific, move northwest, and then turn
northeast. These storms do a lot of damage in Japan. The western Pacific
typhoons cut a storm path 50 to 100 miles (80 to 160 kilometers) wide.
They travel slowly, but these violent gusty winds within the circle of
the typhoon cause great destruction. Each year, up to 25 typhoons
occur in the Northern Pacific Ocean, which is above the equator.
Like hurricanes, typhoons
travel westward.
