Turtle Behavior

 I.  Social behavior

Turtles are not generally considered social animals; however, some turtle species do congregate offshore.

Turtles do gather together to mate. Members of some turtles species travel together to nesting grounds.

II. Individual behavior.

Little is known about the individual behavior of turtle species.

I. Green turtles are considered solitary, but occasionally from feeding aggregations in shallow waters abundant in algae and/or sea grass.

II. In the ocean, flat back turtles may spend hours at the surface of the water floating, apparently asleep and/or basking in the sun.
